Twenty-six Iowa communities will benefit from $2.6 million in funding to revitalize their downtown areas as part of a Community Catalyst Building Remediation grant from the Iowa Economic Development Authority (IEDA).
Each of the 26 Iowa communities will receive $100,000 to go toward redevelopment, remediation and rehabilitation of buildings as a way to help economic growth, according to a press release on IEDA's website.
IEDA and Iowa Finance Authority Director Debi Durham said in a statement that one of the goals of the grant program is to create enthusiasm and spur further growth.
“Revitalization of statewide communities is particularly critical as we recover from the economic impacts of COVID-19,” Durham said in a statement. “The Community Catalyst program is not only about investing in our infrastructure, but it inspires further development and future growth for years to come.”
The Community Catalyst Building Remediation program, which is funded through the state legislature, is now in its third year and is available to cities who meet certain criteria, including having supplemental funds and resources for their projects, according to the release.
