A poll of likely voters shows Iowa Republicans want new leadership to takeover for current U.S. Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA).
A recent Des Moines Register/Mediacom Iowa Poll showed that 37% of Iowa Republicans are "ready" to vote to replace Grassley after his seven terms serving the state.
In the poll, 89% of Democrats and 68% of independent voters agree, as noted in the Des Moines Register article.
In the Des Moines Register article, President J. Ann Selzer of Selzer & Co., the company conducting the poll stated, "Chuck Grassley has had a long and mostly good run, but most Iowa voters appear ready to move on, and his ratings reflect waning interest."
Selzer also said that the polling company has not previously asked whether voters are ready for Grassley to step aside because of his historically high poll numbers which gave him "a certain invincibility."
The poll included results from 807 adults in Iowa from June 13 to 16, the article detailed.
The Des Moines Register article said that the margin of error was 3.5%.
It would be Grassley's eighth consecutive term if he chooses to run for re-election in the fall, an MSN article on the race reported.
In his last six elections, Grassley got over 60% of the vote, the MSN article said.
So far, state Sen. Jim Carlin, a 58-year-old trial lawyer and Army veteran, is the only one other Republican candidate to enter the primary race, the Des Moines Register reported.
