The Clay County Fair was back in Spencer this week, featuring rides, live entertainment, food and more as the public was welcomed to one of the largest county fairs in the country.
The Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series hosted the "Battle of the Blue Ribbon" dirt track race Sept. 14, offering a $3,000 prize to the winner. American Sprint Car Series tweeted that evening, sharing photos of the pits from the fairgrounds venue.
"The Pits are busy at Clay County Fair Speedway," the series said in the tweet.
The fair, which began in 1918 has grown from an attendance of 30,000 to now drawing nearly 300,000 guests a year, Siouxland Proud reported.
The fair began Sept. 11 and will run through the remainder of the week, opening daily at 7 a.m. Admission to the event costs $10 for any adult entering before 5 p.m. and $6 anytime after. Children age 12 and under may enter at any time free of charge and select discount days offer reduced prices for veterans, seniors, families, kids and more.
Special events for the remainder of the week include performances by Josh Turner, Darci Lynne and Ryan Hurd. A full list of events and activities can be found on the Clay County Fair website.
