Iowa ranked highest for individuals that passed the HiSET exam, a high school equivalency exam currently used in 25 states and four U.S. territories, according to Siouxland News.
The test has been used in the state since 2014 and, as of Sept. 21, 1,003 Iowans have passed it, according to Siouxland News.
The test is given in written and online format. Individuals are tested on five subjects: writing/essay, social studies, science, mathematics and reading, according to KHAK News.
In 2020, 95.9% of people that took the test passed it, making Iowa’s average above the national one, which is 80.5%, according to KHAK News.
"Passing the HiSET exam proves you have the same academic knowledge and proficiency as a high school graduate," according to the HiSET website. "Once you pass, your state will issue you a high school equivalency credential. The credential helps you move your life in a whole new direction!"
The HiSET exam is "built on the OCTAE College and Career Readiness Standards for Adult Education," according to KHAK.
