Iowa cross-country won at the 2021 Dirksen-Greeno Invitational.
Iowa’s women's cross-country team finished No. 1 in the 5,000-meter race at the event in Lincoln, Nebraska, The Daily Iowan reported.
“The Iowa women were winners this morning in Lincoln!" Iowa Track & Field/Cross Country said in a post to its official Twitter account Sept. 18.
Iowa track coack Randy Hassenbank was also pleased with the result.
“I was very excited for our women’s team,” Hasenbank said according to The Daily Iowan. “We competed well as a team, and a 13-second gap is impressive. They knew what needed to be done on the course today in order to reach their team goals by the end of the season. Today was a big step in the right direction. Kelli (Tosic), Gabby (Skopec) and Emma (Gordon) are doing a great job with training and racing in regards to bringing our young runners along.”
Hawkeyes Tosic, Gordon and McKee finished as No. 6 (17:40.3), No. 7 (17:40.8) and No. 8 (17:41.7) respectively, according to Hawkeye Sports.
The women's race was extremely close with Nebraska coming in second place by only three points, The Daily Iowan reported.
The men’s cross-country team won No. 3 in the 8,000 meter race, with Nick Trattner and Noah Healy being their best individual finishers, coming in 25th and 26th, respectively.
Next, Iowa cross-country is set to compete at the Gans Creek invite Oct. 1.
