The University of Iowa volleyball team was recently defeated by Michigan State, according to a press release by University of Iowa Athletics.

The Hawkeyes lost 3-0 against Michigan State, and the team hit a .209 percentage for the the game.

Blocking has been an ongoing weakness for the team throughout the season. During the match, the Hawkeyes were outblocked, 5-4.5, according to The Daily Iowan.

"Our blocking and defense are two of the biggest things we need to improve on," freshman Addie VanderWeide said, according to Daily Iowan. "If we can get more touches and blocks, then we will be able to get our backcourt and frontcourt in sync and be in a good position moving forward."

During the game, the team recorded 110 total attacks and VanderWeide tied her career high of 14 kills, according to University of Iowa Athletics.

"Addie as a six rotation freshman definitely shows that she fights through and makes sure that she’s finding a way to contribute, she had a good match with the 14 kills, hitting .265 and having six digs as well. She is definitely a freshman coming in with that grit mentality," Hawkeyes head coach Vicki Brown said, according to University of Iowa Athletics.

As of Oct. 10, the Hawkeyes have lost their five last games and stand at 0-3 in the Big Ten Conference.
