Fort Dodge transitioned through the difficulties brought about by COVID-19

Swab

City of Fort Dodge recently issued the following announcement.

As downtown Fort Dodge transitioned through the difficulties brought about by COVID-19, the City and Main Street Fort Dodge worked together to revamp the existing parking system with three primary goals: create a customer-friendly system with free on-street parking, encourage downtown residents to park in off-street lots and to find an efficient and modern approach to enforcement that allows flexibility.

The first change to downtown parking was effective mid-October 2021 when all on-street parking transitioned to two-hour limits with no parking from 2 am to 5 am daily. Changes to city owned or operated parking lots in the parking system will take effect in the coming weeks.

Beginning January 1, 2022, parking permits will once again be required to park in the majority of downtown lots. Lot 5, the unpaved lot on North 7th Street, remains free parking. Three different types of passes will be sold for City Lots 1, 2, 3, 4, 7 and 8. They are as follows:

• General Parking - $22 per month

• Overnight Parking - $30 per month

• Reserved Parking - $40 per month

Passes can be purchased at City Hall starting Monday, November 15th, 2021, during regular business hours, Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. Permit enforcement will begin at 8:00 am on Monday, January 3, 2022.
