The City of West Des Moines is offering a new Community Engagement Institute (CEI) designed to engage and inform residents from underrepresented populations about the role of local government. This free program connects residents with City leaders so that they can learn about programs and services, tour facilities, and provide officials with feedback on how to improve service delivery.

The Institute will consist of six, two-hour classes held over six weeks from April 24 to May 29. Residents are encouraged to apply for the Institute online at www.wdm.iowa.gov/CEIapp  until Friday, April 7. Space is limited to 20 participants. Dinner will be provided and childcare arrangements can be made for attendees who need assistance.

DEI Director Audrey Kennis said she hopes this initiative will help City leaders better understand the needs of our community, while building stronger relationships with those who have not always had a seat at the table.

“If you know someone who could benefit from these sessions, please reach out to them and encourage them to register online,” she said. “We only have room for 20 participants, so we’re focused on making sure we are engaging with people who will learn new things about local government and help us make sure we’re working effectively to meet their needs.”
