3.9% of citizens in Iowa unemployed in 2021

Iowa's unemployment rate hit 3.9% among residents aged 16 and 65 years old in 2021. That's 65,900 people out of the 3,179,090 living in Iowa at the time, according to data U.S. Census Bureau data obtained on Oct. 26, 2023.

The unemployment rate in Iowa has remained fairly stable compared to the 3.9% registered in 2020.

The percentage of people unemployed in Iowa was less than the national unemployment rate of 5.5%.

Of the 1,623,438 people who had a job during that time, 2,642 were employed in the Armed Forces and 1,620,796 belonged to the civilian labor force.
