The Iowa Utilities Board (IUB) has issued its final decision approving Summit Carbon Solutions, LLC's application for a permit to construct, operate, and maintain a hazardous liquid pipeline through 29 counties in Iowa. Speaker Pat Grassley (R-New Hartford) released a statement in response.

"Iowa House Republicans believe landowner rights are one of our highest priorities. We passed two different bills that would have defended these rights as it pertains to eminent domain," Grassley stated.

He added, "However, the IUB has made its decision to approve Summit Carbon Solution’s pipeline project route with the stipulation that it cannot begin construction until they have received approval in North and South Dakota."

Grassley emphasized the need for legislative action: "This just further confirms what we already knew - that the Legislature must conduct a comprehensive review and update the state's eminent domain laws. We will seek feedback from Iowans on the best way forward and in the meantime, I stand ready to assist my constituents however I can."
