FOIA Request to Iowa Secretary of State- Elections Regarding Comprehensive Information on Spring Election Candidates on February 5, 2025.
In a move to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at Hawkeye Reporter have sent a request under the Iowa Open Records Law § 22.1 et seq to the Iowa Secretary of State- Elections. The request, sent on February 5, 2025, seeks detailed information about all candidates running in the upcoming spring elections.
Specifically, we are requesting a list of all candidates that includes their first, middle and last names; the office they are running for; jurisdiction of the office; and party affiliation. Additionally, we have asked for all contact information for each candidate, including their address, phone number and email address.
As a media organization committed to transparency and holding public institutions accountable, access to such public records is crucial for us in fulfilling our professional responsibilities. We believe that by providing this information to the public, we can ensure a more informed electorate going into the spring elections.
