Iowa has introduced a new unemployment system aimed at simplifying the process for residents to file claims and seek employment. This change is part of an effort to modernize how unemployment insurance claims are handled in the state.

Starting June 3, 2025, Iowans will be required to use iowaworks.gov for all unemployment-related activities. The website will act as a centralized hub where individuals can both file claims and search for job opportunities.

The updated IowaWORKS system is designed to enhance user experience and improve efficiency for staff at Iowa Workforce Development (IWD) by automating several processes. Additionally, the time frame during which Iowans can submit their claims has been extended.
