A Birmingham man, Chrishawn Lloyd Stuckey, 43, has been sentenced to two years in federal prison following a guilty plea for possession of a firearm by a felon. The sentence was handed down by United States District Court Chief Judge C.J. Williams in Cedar Rapids.
Stuckey's conviction stems from an incident where he was found intoxicated at a Wal-Mart in Waterloo, Iowa. After leaving the store, he drove erratically and refused to stop when pursued by law enforcement. He attempted to evade capture by driving onto a highway on-ramp but was stopped by officers using a car maneuver. During the encounter, Stuckey reversed his vehicle into a squad car, causing damage. A loaded stolen firearm was discovered in his car.
Stuckey has prior felony convictions related to trafficking in stolen weapons and possession of firearms as a felon. His current sentence includes 24 months of imprisonment followed by three years of supervised release with no parole option available under the federal system.
The case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), an initiative aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence through collaboration between law enforcement agencies and communities. The Department launched an enhanced violent crime reduction strategy on May 26, 2021, focusing on building trust within communities and supporting organizations that prevent violence.
Assistant United States Attorney Devra T. Hake prosecuted the case with investigations conducted by the Waterloo Police Department, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives (ATF), and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Stuckey remains in custody with the United States Marshal until transfer arrangements are made for his federal prison term.
