The Iowa Department of Transportation has announced overnight ramp closures at the Northeast Mixmaster in Des Moines, scheduled for October 29 and 30. The closures will affect drivers on eastbound Interstate 235 heading to westbound I-80 and those on westbound I-80 east of the Northeast Mixmaster.
According to the Grimes Construction office, crews need to pave the connection from existing pavement to new lanes for westbound I-80. The ramp from eastbound I-235 to westbound I-80 will be closed from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. on both days. During this time, drivers will follow a marked detour route using northbound I-35, SE Corporate Woods Drive, southbound I-35, and westbound I-80.
Additionally, westbound I-80 west of the exit ramp to northbound I-35 will be closed from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. on October 29 and 30. A similar detour route will be in place during these hours.
The Iowa DOT advises motorists to drive cautiously, adhere to posted speed limits and signs in work zones, and note that traffic fines for moving violations are doubled in these areas. Drivers should remain alert, maintain safe distances between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
