Jammonttay Coleman, a 35-year-old resident of Fort Dodge, Iowa, has entered a guilty plea in federal court in Sioux City for possession of a firearm by a prohibited person. The plea was made on July 7, 2025.

During the plea hearing, evidence presented indicated that Coleman had knowingly possessed a stolen Smith & Wesson 9mm pistol on August 25, 2024. The firearm included an attached magazine capable of holding 17 rounds of ammunition. Coleman acknowledged possessing the firearm despite his status as a felon with prior convictions for felony burglary and assault while participating in a felony. Additionally, he admitted to being a user of marijuana. These factors rendered him prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition.

The sentencing will be conducted by United States District Court Judge Leonard T. Strand after the preparation of a presentence report. Until then, Coleman remains in custody under the supervision of the United States Marshal and will stay detained until sentencing is completed. He faces up to 15 years in prison, a fine up to $250,000, and not more than three years of supervised release following any imprisonment.
