Council Bluffs man sentenced for possessing firearm as felon

A Council Bluffs resident, Ronald Lee Behee, Jr., was sentenced to 42 months in federal prison on August 21, 2025, for possession of a firearm as a felon. According to court documents, Behee brought a loaded Ruger LCP .380 caliber pistol with an obliterated serial number to his workplace at Tyson Foods on October 28, 2024. Law enforcement found the weapon in his locker after receiving a tip.

Behee was also found in possession of approximately eight grams of methamphetamine and 4.4 grams of marijuana at the time of his arrest. His criminal record includes previous convictions related to theft, controlled substances, and domestic violence.

Following his prison sentence, Behee will serve three years of supervised release. There is no parole available in the federal system. The court also ordered him to forfeit the firearm and pay a $100 special assessment.

United States Attorney Richard D. Westphal for the Southern District of Iowa announced the sentencing. The case was investigated by the Council Bluffs Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
