A Chicago man has been sentenced to 30 months in federal prison for escaping from custody, according to an announcement from United States Attorney Richard D. Westphal of the Southern District of Iowa.

Court documents show that Terrance Martice Miller, 38, left a Residential Reentry Center (RRC) where he had been ordered to stay after violating supervised release conditions. Miller did not return to the facility and remained at large.

While on escape status in May 2024, Miller strangled an adult female victim until she was unable to breathe. After being charged with assault, Miller made more than 80 phone calls to the victim in attempts to persuade her to drop the charges.

The United States Marshals Service investigated the case.
