A Spencer, Iowa man has been sentenced to over eight years in federal prison after pleading guilty to possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine. Dylan Everett Halbur, 33, received his sentence on August 27, 2025, following a guilty plea entered on March 28, 2025.

Court documents show that law enforcement executed a search warrant on August 26, 2024, at a camper in Spencer where Halbur was living and keeping belongings. Officers found about 45 grams of methamphetamine, $2,900 in cash, marijuana, a digital scale and other items related to drug use and distribution. Halbur admitted the methamphetamine belonged to him and that he intended to distribute some or all of it.

Halbur was sentenced by United States District Court Judge Leonard T. Strand in Sioux City. He received a sentence of 105 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release. There is no possibility of parole in the federal system.

Halbur remains in the custody of the United States Marshal until he is transferred to a federal prison.
