Two years after the October 7, 2023, attack by Hamas on Israel, Senator Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) has joined Senator Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), Senator John Fetterman (D-Pa.), and all Senate Republicans in supporting a bipartisan resolution. The resolution condemns the actions of Iran-backed Hamas terrorists and supports an outcome to the conflict that ensures Israel’s continued existence.
The senators called for the release of all remaining hostages, including the remains of two U.S. citizens. They also expressed support for denying Hamas the ability to reestablish itself in the region.
Senator Grassley stated, “The October 7th terrorist attack against Israel was the single deadliest day for Jews since the Holocaust. It was shocking and disgusting. Senate Republicans are sending a clear message that the United States will continue to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with Israel, especially as antisemitism continues to rise across the globe.”
Senator Ernst reflected on her personal experience during the attack: “Two years ago today, I awoke in the Middle East to horrific news – Israel was under attack by Iran-backed Hamas and Americans had been killed and taken hostage. I immediately traveled into Israel to stand with our ally against Iran-backed terror. Since then, I traveled to the region seven times and met with our Middle East partners to bring our hostages home and end the war. Now that President Trump has restored American leadership on the world stage, I have renewed optimism and will continue to support his peace through strength vision, so another October 7 never happens.”
Other cosponsors of the resolution include numerous Republican senators from across the country.
Senator Grassley has been involved in efforts to strengthen the relationship between the United States and Israel. Since the 2023 attack, he has led legislative actions to affirm Israel’s right to self-defense, address threats from Iran, and seek justice for victims of antisemitism.
