Senate Judiciary Committee advances nominees for federal courts and U.S. attorney positions

The Senate Judiciary Committee has moved forward with several judicial and U.S. attorney nominations following votes held on October 1, 2025. The committee advanced the nomination of Jennifer Lee Mascott to serve as United States Circuit Judge for the Third Circuit with a 12-10 vote.

For the Northern District of Alabama, Edmund G. LaCour, Jr. was approved as United States District Judge by a 12-10 margin, while Harold D. Mooty III received an 18-4 vote for the same court. Bill Lewis was nominated to be United States District Judge for the Middle District of Alabama and was approved by a 14-8 vote.

David Courcelle’s nomination as United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Louisiana also moved forward with a 14-8 vote.

Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) provided opening statements at both the executive business meeting and the judicial nominations hearing.
