Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) has sent letters to four major telecommunications companies and five federal agencies, requesting that they provide Congress with all records previously handed over to former Special Counsel Jack Smith. These records were part of Smith’s investigation, known as “Arctic Frost,” into the elector case against former President Trump. The investigation began at the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) during the Biden administration.

Grassley’s recent oversight activities have revealed that Smith and the FBI subpoenaed phone records from nine Republican Members of Congress and 92 other Republican individuals as part of the Arctic Frost probe. Last week, Grassley and his colleagues requested that the Department of Justice and the FBI provide all records related to the investigation of congressional members during Arctic Frost.

The telecommunications companies contacted by Grassley include Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, and Lumen. The letters were co-signed by several senators and one representative: Ron Johnson (R-Wis.), Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.), Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), Bill Hagerty (R-Tenn.), Josh Hawley (R-Mo.), Cynthia Lummis (R-Wyo.), Dan Sullivan (R-Alaska), Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.), John Cornyn (R-Texas), Mike Lee (R-Utah), Ted Cruz (R-Texas), Thom Tillis (R-N.C.), John Kennedy (R-La.), Eric Schmitt (R-Mo.), Katie Britt (R-Ala.), Ashley Moody (R-Fla.), and Rep. Mike Kelly (R-Pa.).

Grassley and Johnson also sent requests to several federal entities: the Department of Homeland Security, Department of Defense, Office of the Director of National Intelligence, National Archives and Records Administration, and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia.

Grassley’s ongoing Arctic Frost oversight has included multiple actions this year, such as leading efforts to obtain DOJ and FBI records about the targeting of sitting Members of Congress, revealing that the FBI investigated eight Republican senators as part of Arctic Frost, and releasing documents that detail the scope of the anti-Trump investigation. The oversight has also included public release of whistleblower records related to the Department of Justice and FBI’s actions in the Jack Smith elector case.
