Iowa is now participating in the Lost Wages Assistance program, which will let the unemployed receive more benefits, Gov. Kim Reynolds said.
“As we continue to navigate the impact of a global pandemic and historic storm, I am committed to ensuring that Iowans have access to all available resources at the state and federal level,” Reynolds said in a press release from her office. “Iowa was one of the first states in the country to apply and then receive these additional funds from FEMA. I applaud President Donald Trump and his administration for working so quickly to grant this request. The president and his team are committed to helping Iowans at this critical time.”
Trump authorized these additional benefit payments on Aug. 8, which will give support to the Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation program.
“While we are working every day to secure disaster assistance for this week’s storms, this extra $300 weekly benefit should help families looking to transition back to work or remain on unemployment due to medical or childcare issues,” Reynolds said in the press release.
