City of Marion issued the following announcement on November 15.
Beginning at 7 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 18, Peterson Contractors Inc. will be closing Marion Boulevard at 2nd Street to install girders for the new pedestrian bridge that spans the roadway.
Westbound traffic will be routed to 8th Avenue to bypass the construction zone and eastbound traffic will be directed to 6th Avenue during this closure. Delays are expected and alternate routes are encouraged.
The contractor has up to three weeks to complete this portion of the project. The City and contractor will work together to minimize disruption as much as possible.
Installation of the pedestrian bridge is the fourth phase of construction on the multi-jurisdiction CeMar Trail, a 3.5-mile trail project that will eventually connect Downtown Cedar Rapids with Uptown Marion.
Artistic towers by local artist Cara Briggs Farmer will be added to the bridge after the project has been accepted by the Iowa DOT.
Funding for this project is provided by a Federal Surface Transportation Program grant with a local match by the City of Marion.
