A Spencer, Iowa man, Dana Eugene Igou, age 41, has been sentenced to over 14 years in federal prison following his guilty plea to charges of possession of firearms by a drug user and domestic abuse misdemeanant and conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine.

Igou conspired with others to distribute at least 500 grams of methamphetamine. During the conspiracy, he possessed several firearms. In December 2023, after being stopped for a traffic violation, Igou was found with a 9 mm handgun and a small amount of methamphetamine. Due to prior felony convictions and a conviction for domestic violence, Igou was prohibited from possessing firearms. He was arrested again on March 14, 2024, found with firearms, ammunition, brass knuckles, and nearly 9 ounces of methamphetamine. His prior convictions classified him as a career offender.

United States District Court Judge Leonard T. Strand sentenced Igou in Sioux City to 170 months’ imprisonment followed by a five-year term of supervised release. There is no parole in the federal system.

Assistant United States Attorney Jack Lammers prosecuted the case which was investigated by multiple law enforcement agencies including Estherville Police Department and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

Igou remains in United States Marshal’s custody awaiting transport to a federal prison.
