A man from Crystal Lake, Iowa, has been sentenced to over five years in federal prison for his involvement in a methamphetamine distribution conspiracy. Jeremy Nedved, 42, pleaded guilty on January 6, 2025, to the charge of conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine.

During sentencing, Nedved admitted that between February and September 2024, he used the "dark web" to purchase methamphetamine for further distribution. Law enforcement became aware of his activities in August 2024 when it was discovered that he was using the U.S. mail system to receive controlled substances. A mail watch notification was triggered on August 29, 2024, for a package addressed to Nedved's P.O. Box in Crystal Lake. A search warrant allowed authorities to intercept and search the package, which contained approximately half a pound of methamphetamine. On September 3, 2024, a controlled delivery of the package took place at the Crystal Lake post office where Nedved retrieved it and was subsequently arrested.

United States District Court Judge Leonard T. Strand sentenced Nedved in Sioux City to 63 months' imprisonment followed by a three-year term of supervised release. There is no parole in the federal system. Nedved remains in custody with the United States Marshal until he is transported to a federal prison.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Patrick T. Greenwood and investigated by several agencies including the United States Postal Inspection Service, the Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation and the Hancock County Sheriff's Office.
