Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) has released 197 subpoenas issued by former Special Counsel Jack Smith as part of the federal investigation into the 2020 election, known internally as “Arctic Frost.” The subpoenas were disclosed to Grassley through whistleblower channels and targeted a wide array of individuals and organizations connected to the Republican Party.

According to information presented by Grassley, the subpoenas were sent to 34 individuals and 163 businesses. They sought testimony, communications, and records concerning at least 430 named Republican individuals and entities. The scope included communications with major media companies such as CBS, Fox News, Fox Business, Newsmax, Sinclair, and others. Subpoenas also covered exchanges with members of Congress or their staff, White House advisors like Stephen Miller, Dan Scavino, Jared Kushner, Lara Trump, among others. Additionally requested were statistical data on donors and fundraising activities as well as broad financial information relating to conservative figures and organizations.

At a press conference alongside Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations Chairman Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) and other committee members, Grassley criticized the breadth of the investigation:

“Arctic Frost was the vehicle by which partisan FBI agents and DOJ prosecutors could improperly investigate the entire Republican political apparatus. Contrary to what [Jack] Smith has said publicly, this was clearly a fishing expedition.

“If this happened to the Democrats, they’d be as rightly outraged as we are.

“We’re making these records public in the interest of transparency and so that the American people can draw their own conclusions.”

A full list of subpoenaed organizations and individuals has been compiled by Senate Judiciary Committee staff for public access. Copies of Smith’s subpoenas are also available online.

Grassley has previously raised concerns regarding oversight of “Arctic Frost,” including actions taken by top officials at the Department of Justice and FBI. In recent months he called for telecommunications companies and federal agencies to turn over all records provided to Jack Smith’s team. His ongoing inquiries have focused on potential political motivations behind investigative actions targeting Republicans during this period.
