5 Hawkeyes Set for USMC Women's National Championships

Five incoming University of Iowa women’s wrestlers will compete at the USMC Women’s National Championships from Friday through Sunday in Fort Worth, Texas.

The event will be held at the Will Rogers Memorial Center – Amon G. Carter, Jr., Hall.

Future Hawkeyes competing include Nyla Valencia (U20/U23), Nanea Estrella (U20/U23), Ella Schmidt (U20), Bella Mir (U20) and Reese Larramendy (U20).

U20 preliminary action begins at 10 a.m. (CT) Friday, while quarterfinal, semifinals and consolations will begin at 2:30 p.m. The best two out of three championship finals and third, fifth and seventh place matches will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday.

U23 prelims begin at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, while the finals and medal matches will take place at 9:30 a.m. Sunday.

The event will be used to determine the 2022 U20 Pan American and World teams. USA Wrestling will follow rank order first through eighth for World Team selection and second through eighth for 2022 Pan American Team.

The U20 World Championships are scheduled for Aug. 15-21 in Soifa, Bulgaria, while the U20 Pan American Championships are scheduled for July 8-10 in Oaxtepec, Mexico.
