U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) has completed his 45th annual tour of Iowa’s 99 counties, finishing this year’s meetings with a visit to Country Maid in West Bend. During the stop, he held a question-and-answer session with employees. Earlier on the same day, Grassley met with Iowans in Akron, Sheldon, and Rock Rapids.
Grassley emphasized the importance of these meetings for representative government. “Representative government is a two-way street. I’m one half of the process, and the people of Iowa are the other. My 99 county meetings allow me to meet with a large cross-section of Iowans from different walks of life, including students, manufacturers, health care providers and more. These meetings guide my policy priorities in Washington, and I appreciate the chance to meet with my constituents face-to-face and hear their concerns. Since I’m not able to meet with over three million Iowans individually, I always encourage people to share their views by writing a letter, sending an email, or calling or stopping by one of my offices,” Grassley said.
He added that his work on rural health care improvement, fertilizer pricing transparency and prescription drug cost reduction has been shaped by feedback from these sessions: “My leadership to strengthen rural health care, bring transparency to fertilizer pricing and reduce prescription drug costs all stem from my meetings with Iowans,” Grassley continued. “I look forward to hearing from more Iowans at future question-and-answer sessions as I continue serving our state in the U.S. Senate.”
Attendees at this year’s county meetings discussed topics such as pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs), the Farm Bill, health care issues, upcoming tax law changes for 2025, trade matters, biofuels policy, energy concerns and immigration. Many participants expressed support for increased transparency and bipartisan cooperation in Washington.
Grassley has maintained this tradition since his election to the U.S. Senate by holding at least one public meeting in each Iowa county every year for 45 years straight. The format includes town halls as well as visits with small businesses and various community groups across different sectors.
