Construction work has commenced on the I-80 and Middle Road interchange near Bettendorf, as announced by the Iowa Department of Transportation's Davenport construction office. The project includes building a new eastbound I-80 on-ramp, expected to open in late 2025. Once operational, the current eastbound I-80 entrance loop will close permanently to facilitate bridge construction.

Traffic is being maintained during the day on I-80, existing interchange ramps, and Middle Road. However, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., Sunday through Thursday, lane closures will occur for temporary pavement installation on eastbound I-80. All ramps will remain accessible until spring 2026.

In late spring or early summer 2026, the eastbound I-80 on-ramp will close for three to four months for paving of the new right lane and shoulder. A similar closure is planned for the westbound I-80 on-ramp in spring 2027, lasting approximately three to four months. Parts of Middle Road north of I-80 will also face closures during this period.

The Iowa DOT advises drivers to exercise caution in work zones, adhere to speed limits and posted signs, and be aware that traffic fines are doubled for moving violations in these areas. Motorists should stay alert, maintain safe distances between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
