The Iowa Department of Transportation (Iowa DOT) is seeking public input on proposed improvements to U.S. Highway 30 in Greene County, set to begin on October 30. The project involves an overlay between Jefferson and Grand Junction, along with the replacement of the Buttrick Creek bridge, located 2.8 miles west of Iowa 144.
The new bridge will be a 205’ x 44’ pretension prestressed concrete beam structure. A concrete overlay will also be applied to the pavement of U.S. 30. During construction, traffic will be rerouted using a detour that includes Iowa 4, County Road E26, and Iowa 144. The work is scheduled to start in spring 2027 and conclude by fall of the same year.
An open house is planned for Thursday, October 30, 2025, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the Greene County Community Center in Jefferson. Attendees can learn about the project and discuss their ideas with staff members; however, there will not be a formal presentation.
For those unable to attend in person, feedback can be submitted online until November 14. Participants must provide their name and email address before accessing project details.
Questions regarding the project or requests for translation services can be directed to Shelby Ebel at the Iowa DOT District 1 Office in Ames via phone or email.
