The Iowa Department of Transportation (Iowa DOT) is seeking public input on a proposed culvert replacement project on U.S. 63, south of Montezuma, set to begin on October 24. The project involves replacing the existing culvert with a new 16’ x 9’ box culvert between 510th and 525th Avenues in Poweshiek County. Additional work includes grading for the new culvert, constructing a new roadway over it, adding new shoulders along the roadway, and reshaping ditches to align with the flowlines of the new culvert.
Construction is scheduled to start in spring 2027 and conclude by fall 2027. The project requires additional right-of-way and will necessitate closing U.S. 63 to traffic during construction. A detour is tentatively planned along County Road F57/Diamond Trail Road and Iowa 146, pending agreements with local government agencies.
Feedback from the public is encouraged by Friday, November 7. Those interested can learn more about the project and provide comments after submitting their name and email.
